Psychotherapy and poetry have many similarities. They both share similar goals, the expression of ideas and experiences in a way that critiques politics, shapes social norms, resists political oppression and helps clients heal from trauma to improve relationships.

This 10 week mini-series will be arranged in 5 segments, published bi-weekly to provide ample time for the reader to digest and anticipate future content.
The purpose of this 10 week mini-series is to demonstrate how both the psychotherapy profession and the art form of poetry both specialize in the creation and enhancement of human connection.
The 10 week mini series will begin April 21, 2025 and proceed as follows:
Week 1-2 Brief introduction to the psychotherapy profession and the art form of poetry.
Week 3-4 Exploration of expression in the ancient age before psychotherapy. How poetry was used in ancient civilization to critique politics, convey difficult romantic emotion and reinforce social and communal cultural norms.
Week 5-6 History and evolution of the psychotherapy profession with a specific focus on how the psychotherapy profession shaped political ideology and Western social norms.
Week 7-8 Poetry as an art form and its evolution as a tool for political resistance against racist and sexist oppression.
Week 9-10 Analysis of the modern goals of psychotherapy and an examination of how contemporary therapists teach clients to utilize poetry to heal from trauma and improve relationships.
